I’m visiting NYC from Tennessee and wanted to find a coffee shop with a good vibe and great coffee. This place definitely has both—and books on top! It’s a quiet little pocket of calm amid the bustle of the city, the kind of place you can stop into for a moment or relax in for a while. Either way, you’ll get great customer service and even better coffee. The owner, Pumpkin, clearly takes pride in her work. She greeted us with a big smile and a warm welcome, then took the time to make sure we each got the drink we would like best. She is extremely knowledgeable about the coffees she serves and which flavors complement one another. She also made me what might be the best latte I’ve ever had. Also, this place is super clean. And the bathroom soap smells amazing It’s clear that Nefer Bookcafe is a community-oriented places that takes quality seriously and values bringing people together. If I lived in the Bronx, it would absolutely be my regular spot. Thanks for the amazing latte, Pumpkin! 🤎 P.S. I didn’t use AI to write this and I’m not a bot. Lol.

Such a lovely establishment! Our beverages were delicious, and the owner, Pumpkin, was so kind and welcoming. She was also very knowledgeable regarding the provenance and flavors of the various coffee varieties available. The shop was pristine, including the restroom. It makes great use of space with regard to seating and overall atmosphere. Various books and artwork are available for purchase, as well. If I lived locally, this would be my go-to spot to study, read, or do computer work. We had a marvelous time and hope to visit again!

Absolutely in love with this cafe! First off, every time you enter there is something new, unique and interesting. Secondly, the owner Pumpkin is a gem; so kind, always looking to share the stories behind the drinks and art they exhibit. There are a plethora of seating options to enjoy a drink, read book or do work. Plenty of outlets for charging as well. What truly blows this cafe out of the water is their unique menu. There are an array of books, from cooking, to children’s and self help, or hair positivity. Nefer book cafe, what a refreshing change you are in the East Bronx! The strawberry rush with is an Indonesian Sumatra, it’s exceptionally good and beautiful. My favorite go to coffee spot!

Discovered this spot during the NYC Black Women-Owned Bookstore Crawl! A cute and welcoming environment. Pumpkin, the owner, talks to you like she is your cousin or something, and the place feels like more of a nice hangout spot than a store. Definitely support this business!

Nefer Bookcafé is such a vibe! I’m so glad I stopped by this Black woman-owned, Bronx-native-owned bookstore and café on 241st. The space is cozy, and you can really feel how much love and intention has gone into creating something meaningful for the community. There are great co-working areas and quiet corners that are perfect for reading or getting work done. I loved the book selections so many titles that truly reflect the culture, creativity, and brilliance of the community. I picked up two books for myself and a children’s book for my son, and I could’ve easily left with more! They also have a variety of specialty drinks—I tried “The Earth is Too Ghetto” matcha and it was delicious. What makes this place even more special is the sense of connection it fosters. They host events and collaborate with other bookstores across NYC, making it a vibrant hub for creatives and readers alike. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Pumpkin. Her energy is beautiful—she was warm, welcoming, and passionate. She shared the meaning behind “Nefer,” her inspiration, and upcoming events, which made the experience even more personal.
